Locavore, at Avenue Rd and Lawrence, is named for the movement encouraging the use of local products. Ontario-raised meats are grilled, braised, and slow-roasted daily at the restaurant. The only sort of name-dropping that takes place at the resto is the sustainable farms where chef Matt Cowan picks up his home-grown ingredients. Mains are built for meat lovers, with steak, elk, pork, and duck, to name a few. A more veggie-friendly gnocchi or risotto, with nut accents, are also on the menu. Unique flavour combos are experimented with, like butternut squash arancini and apple butter, or black fig jam with sea salt cracker. Expect the menu to change often, as Cowan depends on a lot of seasonal ingredients in his dishes. Locavore also serves brunch on Sundays.
